The Old Blake House - Kendal

This property had stood empty for 20 years and needed completely refurbishing. Our remit was to create a retirement cottage up to modern day standards.

Externally the stonework was re-pointed and a new slate roof was constructed. The new roof incorporated a structural steel ridge beam which enabled us to omit the horizontal ceiling giving the upstairs a greater feeling of space. The internal walls were stripped back and an insulated plasterboard was applied. This greatly increased the heat retaining properties of the solid stone wall and gave the appearance of being in a new home. The lower walls were damp proofed and the ground floor dug out so a new insulated damp proof floor could be built at the correct level. All this was done via an extremely confined alley. We did not envy the builders lugging all their materials to site.

Completed February 2007.
